Meet the Owner, Tanisha Smith

Tanisha Smith has a love and passion for teaching and mentoring students of all ages who love music and want to grow in their musical knowledge and abilities. After graduating from the University of Mobile- Alabama School of the Arts with a B.S. in Music Education and minor in Theatre, Tanisha has spent the last 10 years teaching choir, voice lessons, and musical theatre. She taught middle and high school choir and theatre at San Antonio Christian Schools, where she also assisted with chapels and special musical events for K-12 and led the middle school student worship team for 5 years. Additionally, she led contemporary worship at Crossroads Baptist Church and was the music director with STARZ youth musical theatre at the San Antonio Barshop Jewish Community Center for 2 years. Tanisha is currently a member of Mission City Church in San Antonio where she attends with her husband and two children and volunteers with the children’s ministry.

Tanisha can currently be found singing lead vocals for The Lamplighters Big Band at local gigs in San Antonio and the surrounding areas. She specializes in classical, musical theatre, contemporary, praise and worship, and big band jazz styles.

Tanisha believes in the interdisciplinary value, emotional expression, and spiritual power of music. She desires to make quality music education accessible to students in alternative schooling or after school environments.

What to Expect: Lessons and Classes

 

Private Vocal Lessons include developing a working knowledge of music theory and literacy, developing healthy vocal habits, understanding the whole body as your instrument, and training vocally in the style of your choice. Lessons are available for students of all ages.

Piano Exploration is private instruction for the young student just beginning an interest in the piano. Students are taught proper posture, rhythm and note reading, the components of reading music, one-handed and two-handed playing, and chord structure. Students who show exceptional development and passion for the piano will be referred to more advanced instructors upon their graduation from this instructional level.

Music and Movement Class is for students ages 3-6 who love music! This is a high energy class that includes movement, dance, body percussion, and singing for your music loving little one! Parents are encouraged to be part of the experience too!

The Elementary and Secondary Choral Classroom experiences include movement, music theory and sight-singing, choral blending, teamwork, and Kodaly methodology. Tanisha hopes to grow classes to compete in TMEA and/or TCDA in the next 1-2 years. These classes are for 1st through 12th grade.

Worship Leadership Training is offered for solo vocal coaching or group coaching. Tanisha has experience working with middle and high school praise teams and church adult teams.
